Minimalist Wardrobe (Total Comfort Without Breaking The Bank)

Why Minimalist Fashion Works for Me: Everyday Comfort with Jerseys, Cargo Pants, and More

For a long time, I thought minimalist fashion meant wearing only neutral colors and having a wardrobe of plain white t-shirts and black pants. But over time, I realized that minimalism isn’t just about aesthetics—it’s about having a wardrobe that works for your lifestyle, is versatile, and makes getting dressed effortless.

That’s why my go-to clothing choices revolve around comfort, functionality, and durability. Jerseys, cargo pants (including denim ones), overall dresses, yoga pants, and midi dresses are the core pieces in my wardrobe. They’re practical, easy to style, and perfect for everyday wear. Here’s why I love them.

1. Jerseys: The Perfect Everyday Top

Jerseys are one of my favorite wardrobe staples. They’re lightweight, breathable, and last forever—even with frequent washes. I used to think jerseys were just for sports, but they’ve become my go-to for everyday wear because they:

Keep me cool in humid weather – The fabric doesn’t stick to my skin, making them perfect for Singapore’s climate.

Are incredibly durable – Unlike flimsy t-shirts that stretch out or fade, jerseys hold up well over time.

Give a laid-back, sporty look – Whether paired with jeans, cargo pants, or even a skirt, they always add an effortless edge to my outfit.

They’re comfortable, practical, and can be styled in so many ways—what’s not to love?

2. Cargo Pants: Functional and Stylish

Cargo pants are the best thing that ever happened to my wardrobe. I used to avoid them because I thought they were too baggy, but once I found the right fit, I never looked back.

Pockets, pockets, pockets! I can actually carry my phone, keys, and wallet without needing a bag.

Loose but structured fit – Unlike skinny jeans, cargo pants don’t cling to my legs, making them comfortable for all-day wear.

Perfect for casual and semi-dressy looks – A fitted top with cargo pants creates a balanced silhouette that looks effortlessly put together.

I also love denim cargo pants because they have the rugged look of jeans but with the added practicality of extra pockets. They feel a little more polished than traditional cargo pants but still offer the same comfort.

3. Overall Dresses: A Playful Yet Practical Choice

If there’s one piece of clothing that instantly makes me feel put-together with minimal effort, it’s an overall dress. It’s one of those items that looks like I tried when in reality, I just threw it on.

Effortless one-piece outfit – No need to coordinate a top and bottom—just wear a t-shirt or tank underneath, and I’m good to go.

Comfortable and functional – The loose fit makes it easy to move in, and some even have pockets (a huge plus!).

Can be dressed up or down – I can pair it with sneakers for a casual look or with sandals for something a little more refined.

An overall dress is the perfect blend of practical and playful. It gives off a laid-back, nostalgic vibe while still being a super functional everyday piece.

4. Yoga Pants: More Than Just Workout Wear

I used to think yoga pants were just for exercise, but now they’re a staple in my wardrobe—even on days when I’m not working out.

Ridiculously comfortable – The stretch and soft fabric make them the ultimate lounge-to-errands outfit.

Perfect for layering – They work well under oversized tops, tunics, or even under dresses on cooler days.

Versatile and easy to style – A well-fitted pair of yoga pants can look sleek and intentional rather than just “gym clothes.”

For days when I want to feel extra comfy but still look put together, yoga pants are my go-to.

5. Midi Dresses: The Ultimate Throw-On-and-Go Piece

If I could only keep one type of dress in my wardrobe, it would be midi dresses. They’re simple, comfortable, and so easy to wear.

Loose and breathable – Perfect for staying cool in warm weather.

No-fuss styling – I can wear it as-is or layer it with a jacket for a different look.

Works for casual and dressy occasions – Whether I’m lounging at home or heading out, a midi dress always works.

There’s something about midi dresses that just feels effortless. They’re the kind of clothing that doesn’t require overthinking—just slip one on, and you’re ready for the day.

Why This Minimalist Wardrobe Works for Me

My fashion choices used to be all over the place. I’d buy trendy pieces that I rarely wore or clothes that didn’t quite fit my lifestyle. But now, I’ve found a wardrobe that truly works for me—simple, practical, and versatile.

Jerseys, cargo pants, overall dresses, yoga pants, and midi dresses are my essentials because they:

Are comfortable for everyday wear

Can be mixed and matched easily

Last longer and don’t require constant replacements

Fit my lifestyle without adding unnecessary clutter

Minimalist fashion isn’t about limiting yourself—it’s about choosing pieces that serve you well, day after day. And for me, these wardrobe staples do exactly that.

My Chaotic Mess

My Chaotic Mess When I first began exploring mindfulness, I wasn’t sure what I was looking for. Life had become a series of unfortunate events, each one piling on top of the last, creating an unmanageable weight. From the trauma of an assault that led to a forced abortion to the heartbreak of a four-year relationship that never led to marriage, I felt like I was constantly spiraling. The weight of a marriage that ultimately fell apart, losing custody of my children, struggling with mental health, and battling through health and work-related endurance issues—everything felt overwhelming. During these times, I found myself in need of tools—tools to help me manage, to cope, and to regain some control back. Mindfulness became one of the most invaluable practices I embraced. And through my journey, I discovered several resources that provided tangible relief: therapy, self-help groups, psychotherapy, counseling, and, yes, mindfulness tools. A Personal Journey Through Pain and Healing My pat...

Mindfulness: Find Your Purpose

Part 6 of a 10 Part Series Finding Your Purpose. Many people struggle with finding their purpose. We struggle in finding the value of what we are doing. We question ourselves, why am I even doing this? Finding your purpose in life is way bigger than that. If you struggle to see the value of what you are doing, you get stuck in the situation and you feel hopeless. You are constantly dragging yourself, forcing yourself to face the situation you are in. I hate my job. Life is bigger than this. Why am I even here? Right? You have to feed yourself, you need shelter, you need clothing and you live in a community of sorts. You can get a job or you can run off somewhere that you can grow your food, weave your cloth and build your own house. Having a job is of value so you can get your necessities. Finding your purpose? What's your purpose, your true calling? Your job is not your life's purpose, it's just a valuable set of skills to be able to get your necessities. It doesn't de...

Mindfulness: Finding Your Voice

Part 5 of a 10 Part Series.  My mind tripped while attempting to write this. Finding your voice in the digital world is like talking out loud but no one is listening. There are common digital spaces where you can have common conversations and shared ideas but among so many comments, how do you validate yourself? But who cares about the digital world. You can create a whole new persona of yourself to present to the world. Ultimately, it's just you playing pretend. We live in the real world. If someone likes you, great. If they don't, you don't care but of course, you'll start wondering- why not? At times, you 'll even hate yourself. Why then would people even like you? You are, who you are and in life you'll juggle a lot of responsibilities. You are a child, a parent, a student, a hard ass worker- you are all of that. But it doesn't define who you are. You are not your responsibilities and roles. I fall into this trap and at one time my only identity was bein...
